It’s all in the Caption
Sometimes, most of what makes a holiday card special is the holiday greeting. A well thought out caption can turn a normal card into a special one adding another layer of depth to the photo. You can even think of the greeting as a punch line and turn it into an hysterically funny Christmas card. Who doesn’t want to receive a funny Christmas card?
For example, imagine receiving this card below in the mail.

Have a Fairy Merry Christmas
You open the envelope, look at the photo and think to yourself “Strange, what’s that guy doing in a Fairy Costume?” Then you open the card and read “Have a Fairy Merry Christmas”. Suddenly all you can think of is how brave, funny and wonderful this family is. I don’t even know them and I love them. I have posted this in the “Favorites” section in the Gallery of Cards.
I also included another one of their cards with the caption “Sleep in Heavenly Peas”.

Sleep in Heavenly Peas
The only thing that makes this card great is the caption. The photo isn’t that amazing., yet it is one of my favorite Christmas cards. I love the effort that they made with it renting the costumes etc. Another card they did has the caption “Gnome for the Holidays”, and, yes, you guessed it, they are dressed as Gnomes. And yet another one is all 4 of them dressed up as huge birds speaking on cell phones with the caption ‘Four calling birds”. I wish I were on their Christmas list.
There are lots of other funny puns which are swirling around. The card below I found on a fun website www.Thriftyfun.com. The caption is “Happy Mistletoes”.

Happy Mistletoes
There is plenty of room for creativity with this caption. I can imagine a beautiful picture of a newborn baby’s feet with “Happy Mistletoes” underneath it. Perhaps the baby was born at Christmas and it’s also the birth announcement. I also have always liked the idea of a Christmas card with a picture of all of the children’s shoes on the back porch. Maybe there is a new set of tiny baby booties. If someone does this will they please send it to me? My children are too old now to do this, and I am dying to see this executed.
There are many dog pictures with a caption like the following card, “Fleas Navidog”, but it works.

One I’ve seen a lot for cats is “Have a Meowy Christmas” In fact, we have both of these as captions on a few of cards in our “Gallery of Cards” section. Take a look at the Furry Friends Section if you’re an animal lover. People love Christmas cards with animals. I had to choose between hundreds of them for my book. In fact, there is even a dog on the cover.
